Eventually, everything needs an update,
and this mid-century farmhouse had reached that point.

AFTER:
Our clients raised their family in this home,
and after 20 years of ownership and lots of living,
they wanted a fresh space--
as empty-nesters, for entertaining, and
tough enough to handle the next phase: grandkids!
LET'S TAKE THE TOUR!
Vintage appliances (those turquoise ovens!!)
and original cabinets were just plain worn out.
Don't worry; they found a new home
in someone's Airbnb bunkhouse!
Demo-ing a space this old meant going all the way
down to the studs! Because-- all new electrical and plumbing.
That's a lot of dumpster space!
Slowly but surely, we got it done.
It's always exciting to see the new drywall--finally!

SOME OF OUR FAVORITE DETAILS:
It was important to our clients that the space
flowed, which required opening up this wall:
(kitchen side):
(Living room side):
So we installed a supporting beam:
(Ruger made sure we did it right!)
AFTER:
That fireplace stone is original to the house,
but was an unfortunate pink tone.
It was a bold decision to paint it all, but
we found the perfect gunmetal gray
to accentuate the space!

How cool is that entryway planter?!!
And this entryway clock--vintage 1958!
Back in the kitchen,
new countertops and backsplash
to highlight that huge bay window:
AFTER:
And new cooktop and ovens:
An eat-in bar, which doubles as extra prep space:
And a large pantry/bar area for storage:

A wider opening into the laundry area
helps the space flow:

This super tiny bathroom had seen better days.
By removing a closet, we were
able to provide more space and
better storage options.

Tiny, cramped shower stall

Best wishes to this couple as they
enjoy their fresh, new space
and make many more happy
memories in their home!
